Overview:
The Account Supervisor supports and develops the strategic direction of one or more brands and independently manages direct reports and the agency team through project implementation. This position is directly responsible for account profitability, client relationship at the product/marketing manager level, development of direct reports, growth of accounts, and strategic cross-servicing opportunities.
Description of Duties:
- Develops solid working relationships with clients at the product manager level as well as the various functional areas within the client company and it's primary vendors; is able to leverage these relationships to grow the business and help ensure resource allocation as needed to produce great work
- Manages client budgets and client demands vs agreed-upon budgets. This includes responsibility for timely estimates and signatures, management of expenses vs estimates and prompt reestimating to minimize risk for the agency
- Maintains financial control of the account including utilization and profitability. Manages the billing process and works with staff to ensure timely management of hours vs estimate and works with internal team and client to minimize write-offs. Ensures senior management is aware of any potential financial issues
- Is involved in daily client contact and follow-up and ensures common understanding of next steps, client point of view and functional needs of the account. Engages senior management in an appropriate manner regarding any client needs/concerns
- Demonstrates solid partnership with other areas of the agency to produce great work. This includes the creative, brand planning, medical services and project management teams. Understands the roles of each functional area and provides each role with the appropriate tools/information/time needed to lead to the best work possible
- Ensures all members of the team maintain a solid knowledge base regarding client brands, scientific/competitive advantages, markets, and competitive activity
- Manages account workload and facilitates communication to maximize resources, including communication with senior management regarding upcoming resource needs or projected reductions in account activity
- Ensures direct reports are taking a proactive and strategic stance in regard to client brand and market. When the client experiences delays/slowdowns, the account supervisor seeks to stay out in front and provide plans and solutions to keep the account as active as possible
- Provides daily direction to direct reports, including feedback and coaching in a positive and motivating manner
- Ensures development of agency talent through performance reviews, development plans by ensuring direct reports have access to appropriate mentoring opportunities
- Participates in the development of client strategy and brand, including leading the development of strategic and tactical plans with supervision and collaboration of the team
- Presents plans to client in an engaging and thorough manner and ensures appropriate follow-up and sell-in on creative, strategy and tactics
- Represents and defends the agency's point of view, handles objections in a professional manner and pushes back on clients in a diplomatic way to ensure win/win solutions for both the client and agency
- Attends all appropriate client meetings, market research, conferences, and sales training and provides follow-up documentation to client, and reports back appropriately to the team
- Assists regularly with analyses of competitive news, product/market performances, market research data and literature
- Demonstrates a command over client processes and assists client in the process management to ensure the agency has appropriate time and resources required to produce great work
- Employs a proactive approach to learning in the workplace and seeks to grow personal knowledge as well as share information to support the team's growth on the account
- Works with senior management on the scoping process and ensures a fully integrated approach is utilized
- Understands the service offerings within the network, soliciting management support in developing proposals as appropriate
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant client experience in marketing or other related disciplines or
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant agency experience or
- Minimum of 5 years of account services experience with 3 years as an account executive
- Strong knowledge of general pharmaceutical marketing and sales, brand management and/or consumer marketing
- Ability to manage and develop staff, lead a team and collaboratively work through project development
