Job Summary:
Participates in the development and supervises the implementation of medical education and program advisory projects. Manages projects within defined budgets and deadlines. Manages internal and develops and manages network of external resources appropriate to the successful completion of project objectives. Oversees Medical Communications program trafficking and client reporting activities. Supervises Medical Communications databases. Ensures that the highest standards of client services are provided.

  • All client communications materials must establish and integrate communications messages that are consistent with the company's image, philosophy, business and product marketing strategies. It is incumbent upon the Strategic Communications Program Manager (Strat Comm PM) to work with his/her Medical Communications colleagues to develop effective medical education and program advisory projects in support of integrated Medical Communications programs.
  • Examples of such projects include, but are not limited to, symposia, roundtables, advisory boards, investigator meetings and workshops. The Strat Com PM will work with Medical Communications colleagues to establish platforms and faculty for such projects, and will develop and/or supervise the development of all associated collateral materials. The Strat Com PM will also be responsible for mapping out the medical education and event components for new business ventures and, along with the dedicated Medical Communications team, integrating those elements into a complete client program.
  • The Strat Com PM is also responsible for developing and/or supervising program trafficking systems, client reporting mechanisms, and Medical Communications databases. Examples of such activities include, but are not limited to: maintaining current client account information; creating, tracking and archiving projects; reviewing monthly billing reports and preparing client tactical calendars; preparing client conference reports and other correspondence necessary for successful project communications; creating and maintaining database system(s) to archive reference materials, as well as obtaining new information about technologies, products and luminaries to support ongoing and developmental Medical Communications activities.
  • The Strat Com PM will interface with key advisors and investigators, as well as colleagues in public relations, marketing and sales communications and promotion in the execution of his/her duties.
  • The Strat Com PM will be responsible for managing expenditures across multiple cost centers and for ensuring the highest standard in client service.
Key Duties And Responsibilities:
  • Develop and/or implement effective medical education, meeting and event projects in support of integrated Medical Communications programs, including symposia, roundtables, advisory boards, investigator meetings and workshops. Work with Medical Communications colleagues and clients to establish platforms and faculty for such projects; develop and/or supervise the development of all associated collateral materials and logistics. Provide support for publication and presentation programs, including journal and meeting profiles, and managing production and distribution of slides, posters, etc. Interface with key advisors and investigators, as well as colleagues in public relations, marketing and sales communications and promotion to accomplish project objectives.
  • Develop and/or supervise program trafficking systems, client reporting mechanisms, and Medical Communications databases. Examples of such activities include, but are not limited to: maintaining current client account information; creating, tracking and archiving projects; reviewing monthly billing reports and preparing client tactical calendars and internal billing statistics; preparing client conference reports and other correspondence necessary for successful project communications; preparing and maintaining client program Gantt charts; creating and maintaining database system(s) to archive reference materials, as well as obtaining new information about technologies, products and luminaries to support ongoing and developmental Medical Communications activities.
  • Supervise and train Medical Communications Account Coordinators on both technical and operational aspects of their duties. Create protocols and style guides for use by both internal and external resources to ensure consistency and quality of output. Provide input into evaluations of support staff, as well as triage of workload and analysis of resource allocations and requirements.
Education and Experience
  • Four-year college education with an emphasis in science, communications, marketing or healthcare-related field. Advanced degrees in above areas a plus. Related work experience may serve as modifier of preferred degree major(s).
  • Knowledge of communications organizations systems required. Knowledge of medical education protocols and event planning, as well as demonstrated supervisorial skills are also required, along with 2+ years in strategic healthcare communications/medical education.
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communications skills
  • Knowledge of market development programs, medical education and strategic healthcare communications (publication/presentation programs, etc.)
  • Demonstrated supervisorial, analytical, and communications skills
  • Strong systems organizational abilities
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry/previous industry experience
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and some graphics software for both PC and MAC platforms
