Summary:
Position involves providing scientific direction internally to writing staff and account team and externally to clients and authors. Responsible for quality control of medical communication projects through peer review and final sign off. Also will provide writing support for medical communication projects and new business support as needed. Involved in management of writing staff and personnel-related issues.
Education and Core Competencies Required
- PhD or PharmD
- 1+ year research or work experience (eg, postdoctoral)
- 4 to 5 years professional writing experience
- Independently handles wide range of complex projects with multiple timelines
- Expertise in multiple therapeutic areas
- Understands marketing strategies and able to play major role in publication planning
- Able to provide scientific, strategic, and tactical direction to writers, account team, and clients
- Excellent work product requiring minimal internal review
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness to travel (~25%)
Primary Responsibilities include
- Oversee work product of multiple writers
- Provide final sign off on medical communications projects
- Ensure quality standards of writing staff and freelancers
- Assist in recruitment, training, and mentoring of new writers
- Support new business pitches (eg, background research, onsite attendance)
- Verbal and written internal communication and external communication
- Provide writing support for projects as needed
- Attend scientific/client meetings and provide support as needed
- Strategic planning, including development of publication plans (eg, key messages)
- Work with account team to manage project-related needs, including writer work flow
- Provide leadership to writing staff
- Work with Vice President (VP) of Medical Communications to provide job performance evaluation and career development for writing staff
- Communicate with VP of Medical Communications on all matters related to writing staff
