Description:
OBJECTIVES:
This position will help establish the Competitive Intelligence function by; developing and administering formal processes and policies for the collection, assessment, classification, storage, and dissemination of competitive information; coordinating with other functional areas to develop and maintain sharing technologies to support CI activities; creating and maintaining CI tracking systems, repositories and related technologies; identifying, planning, pursuing and managing data collection opportunities and activities, obtaining data through internal and external sources; tabulating and assessing the accuracy, validity, and reliability of the data assembled; identifying key business trends and critical industry developments derived from the data collected, documenting relevant findings and briefing CPTs and senior management on the important competitive information developed.

Additionally, this position will lead competitive intelligence activities that monitor and evaluate key competitor activities and strategies supporting the CPTs, decision making and product commercialization.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Help to develop CI function and processes.
  • Gathers, validates and disseminates competitive information to build knowledge and drive better decision-making for CPTs and specified therapeutic areas. Analyzes competitors, market trends, industries, and other external issues as directed and set by functional areas. Provides strategic insight and directions to CPTs charged with setting competitive and market strategies.
  • Gathers information from a variety of internal and external sources regarding competitors' strategy, concentration, financial results, targeted markets, product development activities, assesses the information and makes specific strategic recommendations.
  • Work with multiple CPTs and functional areas and cross functional teams to identify key CI requirements
  • Identify, plan, pursue and manage collection opportunities and activities; obtain data, debrief and interview sources, and advise CPTs and executives on the intelligence cycle and processes.
  • Develops process that allows key competitive findings to be incorporated into the strategic planning process in a timely manner for key constituents (e.g. CPTs, Executives, Business Development, and Marketing (brand and NPP Teams).
  • Analyzes and triangulates information, determines significance, assesses implications, provides analysis and communicates data to key stakeholders with recommended actions and potential counter measures as appropriate
  • Identify, plan, pursue and manage collection opportunities and activities; obtain data, debrief and interview sources, and advise CPTs on the intelligence cycle and processes.
  • Participate in strategic process by communicating findings in a timely manner to key constituents (e.g. CPTs, Executives, Business Development, and Marketing (brand and NPP) Teams).
  • Administer formal protocols, processes and policies for the collection, assessment, classification, storage, and dissemination of competitive information.
  • Provide rigorous assessment of the accuracy, validity, and reliability of gathered information.
  • Create and maintain CI tracking systems, repositories and related technologies.
  • Identifies and evaluates vendors for competitive intelligence research; establishes and manages research projects in alignment with CPTs needs within budget
Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
Education Desired:
  • Academic science training
  • Advanced science degree or MBA
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ten or more years of progressive experience in the healthcare industry; Comprehensive knowledge of competitive intelligence data sources. Strong understanding of the intelligence cycle, especially collection, assessment, and management of primary data. Progressive demonstrated business experience, preferably in a professional services environment or sales, marketing, consulting capacity with some prior competitive intelligence experience required.
  • Strong analytical skills, plus knowledge of investigational research tools via Internet, trade journals and industry experts.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking; able to see the big picture from scattered pieces of information
  • Ability to work across functions, partnering with the CPTs and other cross functional/functional teams
  • Works independently, gathers input about needs from stakeholders and sets own direction accordingly
  • Ability to structure and present qualitative data in a compelling and convincing fashion
  • Proven ability to interact with senior level executives in delivering effective presentations and providing high-level information to influence major decisions.
  • Relevant experience in running cross-functional teams

  • People Development - Ability to assess strengths and weaknesses of staff members and provide suggestions for improvements. Ability to hire, coach, council and if needed, fire employees.

  • Communication - Ability to communicate ideas, data both verbally and written, in a persuasive and appropriate manner.
  • Budgeting - Ability to create and maintain an accurate budget for department expenses.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Valid driver's license
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires approximately 25-30% travel.
